ON HAMEED ALI & CORRUPTION AT THE CUSTOMS - Asaju Tunde

By charging that he will sack, prosecute and jail corrupt officers, Hameed Ali has just exhibited the worst form of arrogant ignorance. Your duty as Customs boss,
allows you to discipline people after a thorough and impartial investigation. Prosecution is left for agencies of law to deal with, NOT YOU. The verdict of guilt and jail term is in the hands of the judiciary. That is what the Rule of Law means, not the arbitrary wish of an individual no matter how highly placed. Somebody should talk to these gragra ex-soldiers that democracy thrives on impartial application of the rule of law. Hameed Ali cannot jail anyone, and if he fires anyone on his whims, the courts would overrule such arbitrariness and 'do the lawful'.
You can send correct signals of change without abrogating to yourself the power of the accuser, prosecutor and judge. That is the way our constitution and extant laws work...even and more so under Buhari. Good intention Hameed but bad language. This is 2015, not 1966. Those hailing the poor speech should drum the democratic meaning of ‪#‎Change‬ into the ears of our political friends. Deal with corruption, but follow the law.
