The philanthropist who have made a meaningful and sustained impact in Borno and beyond. Alhaji Mai Deribe is known for

his pass philanthropy. He gave generously and roll up his sleeves to make things happen from providing financial services for the underbanked development of Borno never as a public office holder (he never held any public position) but as a concerned citizen, who showed disinterest and selfless concern for the well being of the state. At the drop of a hat, Deribe was a success business tycoon who has more than enough and has brought a lot of achieves for the development of Borno and further to be discussed...
Alhaji Mai Deribe got the best of both worlds. As his business has been in the black (profitable), government on the other side partner with him for benefit. Many political office holders came for his blessings and support. As mentioned earlier, he never held any government position. He refused to accept a lot of traditional titles from different emirates within Nigeria, Niger, Chad and Cameroon as well as political honorary degrees from different universities.
Deribe carried all along without any discrimination. He has promoted the lives of many Bornoans, help almost all religious personalities and youth as well. Many have benefitted from his pilgrimage gesture, he took a lot people to saudi for Hajj and Umrah respectively. Words can't express all his past record.

(Included Science and Social Science complex, Agrovet complex, the Ramat Library and many of the existing lecture theaters).
State Specialist Hospital (General Hospital).
Brigadier Maimalari Barracks.
Federal secretariats complex.
Personal structures:
Dalaram soft drink factory.
Deribe Hotel.
Deribe Hospital.
Prussag Drilling company.
Deribe Motel.
Baga Road Shopping Complex Bewac.
Among others to mention but just a few. The companies stopped working because of lack of partnership. Any sole proprietorship business die together with the owner.
I'm yet to see any son of soil with such formidable gestures.
The Deribe palace, I won't say much but the palace has elevated the stand and gave a lot of respect to the state. Many highly dignified personalities who came into Africa was hosted as a guess at Deribe palace. People like George H. W. Bush of America, princess Diana Frances and her husband prince Charles of England, Juan Carlos I of Spain, among others.
Its just a summary about the philanthropy of Alhaji Mai Deribe.
He pushed up daisies on Friday 13th March 2002 at the holy land (Saudi) May his soul continue to rest in peace.
